Renae Callaghan

Centre Director and Nominated Supervisor

Renae is the one crouching at the door in the morning film, at eye level, taking the backpack. She taught kindergarten for eight years and directed a large Cairns centre for two before opening Sunbird with Josh. She opens the gate most mornings and does the fee conversations herself, because she thinks the person who sets the fee should be the person who explains it.

Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood), ACECQA approved. Registered teacher with the Queensland College of Teachers. Current Queensland working with children check (blue card). HLTAID012 first aid in an education and care setting, asthma and anaphylaxis.

Bree Hollister

Nursery Room Leader

Bree is the educator on the nursery floor with the picture book in the second film. She has been with us seven years, started in the toddler room and asked to move down to the babies. She writes the sleep and bottle notes that go home, and she is the reason our nursery settling plan runs over two weeks rather than two days.

Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. Current blue card. First aid, CPR, asthma and anaphylaxis. Infant safe sleeping and SIDS risk reduction training.

Talei teaches the approved kindergarten program and is our educational leader, which means she is the one arguing with the rest of us about whether a plan is actually documented or just remembered. She wrote the block construction project that runs each winter and she does every transition to school statement herself.

Marnie Duffield

Toddler Room Leader and Sun Safety Officer

Marnie is in the blue shirt at the water channel in the first film. She runs the toddler room and keeps the UV chart by the door, which in Cairns matters most of the year. Nine years in the sector, six of them here, and she still knows every child's hat by the chin strap.

Wendy came to us in 2018 from a hotel kitchen and cancelled the frozen supplier account inside a fortnight. She cooks four services a day on a five week rotating menu, uses whatever the kindergarten herb bed produces, and keeps a laminated allergy board that every educator can read from the servery.
